BritPat Posted April 13, 2010 Share Posted April 13, 2010 The model for IQ is a Normal or Gaussian distribution. The mean or average is at the centre of the distribution and the distribution is symmetric about the mean it is hardly surprising therefore that by definition 50% of the population modelled is below the average while the other 50% is above average. The average is approx 100 with the standard deviation being approx 15, the normal range is mean +/- 2 SD which gives a range of approx 70 to 130 which covers approx 95% of population modelled.
