Bedders
The problem was that trade unions were being run by people with a political agenda and not for the members, Scargill being a prime example. At their height the conservatives still governed on a minority share of the vote. Marxists versus out & out capitalists.....& the poor buggers stuck in the middle kopped for the lot. Always amazes me that Thatcher took all the blame & Scargill got off scot-free. How does withdrawing 'Labour' from a job of work, when they want to stop that job anyway, win an arguement? There are still families divided around the country beacause of that mess. Saying that Scargill these days seperates himself from Commies & is just a Left Wing out & out socialist. (Think he's leader of the Socialist Labour Party?) Red Robbo (Derek Robinson) was another that used his power for a political agenda. Look on Wikipedia (if you aren't aware of who I'm on about) how many walkouts that man instigated in one year. I think 'Carry on at your convenience' was taking the micky out of the likes of him!!!
