Weazel2006
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8627361.stm So how many of our children are going to have to die before these nasty breeds of dog (staffie, mastiff) are banned, and possession is equal to that of a knife?. Pathetic uk laws
[Matt]
Tragic indeed but those pitbull laws simply don't work... People still breeed and keep them as pets. Banning breeds is not the answer but instead dog owners need to be educated...
bagger
Whilever idiots are training these dogs to be killing machines then tragedies like this will keep on happening. Article in the Daily Telegraph magazine today where this breed of idiot admits that having these dogs snarling at the end of the lead is better than carrying a knife. They admit that if their dog kills someone then they will get less time inside than if they used a knife.

The system is more likely to have the dog put down and by default punishing it's owner, yet the owner wipes the crocodile tears away when leaving court only to go get another. I suppose the system eventually would pick up on the abuse of that though.
gina2007
Its not the breed, its the owners. ANY breed can be trained to be nasty, and ANY breed can turn. Just as ANY breed can be trained to be a good dog, and ANY breed might not turn. Get a dog, but do your research beforehand. Save up plenty of money, crate train, lead train, take to training classes, socialise the dog, make sure children are aware of how to treat the animal with respect and vice versa. Excercise it for the time its recommended. Feed it a food that is designed for their stomachs, rather than just any old tin of wet food, that wont make it hyper. After all that, I dont know if this dogs owner HAS done any of the above but for christ sake, its not the breed. Id have a staffie in my house anyday around my son over a springer spaniel! I'm getting sick of people blaming the breed now, i'm 24 years old and the only vicious dogs i've encountered are Yorkshire terriers, Jack Russels and one Rottie. IT'S THE OWNERS WHO SHOULD BE PUNISHED, NOT THE BREED!

IT'S THE OWNERS WHO SHOULD BE PUNISHED, NOT THE BREED! I did hear something about someone being linked with the dna of the dog that attacked someone and thus being up for prosecution.... Well having dogs killing our children is absolutely not acceptable, we class humans that do it as monsters, villians and scum....so at the very least this should come up with the powers that be and FURTHER action should be taken. Without a doubt there are probably more snappy terriers around than vicious rotties but I know which I'd prefer to bite me.
