jobee
I think as long as Clegg is honest and true to his promises-(which unfortunately many politicians are not) then it matters not what he believes in. There are many leaders who openly believe in a Deity, but have lied, cheated, stolen, murdered(direct or indirect) etc . So if Clegg is 100% atheist but displays none of the above (and more), I welcome him. I was chuffed when i found out he was an atheist, i've never heard a politician come out with it. [Matt]
I was chuffed when i found out he was an atheist, i've never heard a politician come out with it. Alastair Campbell James Callaghan Charles Clarke Robin Cook Frank Dobson Michael Foot Roy Hattersley Neil Kinnock Ken Livingstone David Miliband Mo Mowlam Clare Short Dennis Skinner ...to name a few self avowed non religious politicians. I'm sure the list is far larger that the ones I can think of from the top of my head...

So are you going to vote for him because he's an athiest or because you believe in his policies?
Vague_Boy
Whats the point in this thread? Its not like hes running for priest Political leaders are generally expected to be "believers". Good to find one that is prepared to admit to beliefs more modern than the Bronze Age.
jobee
So are you going to vote for him because he's an athiest or because you believe in his policies? I believe he's sincere about the reformation of parliament. As an atheist myself I want those 26 prelates removed from top jobs in British politics they are 'unelected power' and i want parliament to be fully democratic. The electorate says who represents us. The Queens roll in all this political/religio mess also bothers me. Is she telling us she didn't know that HER government was ripping the tax payer off. I believe her sycophants must have told her many years ago. Those prelates did not speak up when Blair sent our military forces into Irag. This convinces me they are not the genuine article, they are looking after themselves. I would also like to see the separation of church and state. Nick also wants less MPs I agree with him. just me. India has a smaller government than us to run that vast continent. Ancient baggage out.

focusedhypno
I think this won't harm Nick's chances of success at all. Yeah, some people may not vote for him now because of what he has said but I'm willing to bet a larger number of people WILL now vote for him because of his honesty. I'm with Nick.
