anarchist
Unemployment up again. Rise now almost 750,000 since Labour came to power. Today it was anounced that unemployment had passed 2.5 million an increase of almost 750,000 since Labour came to power promising things could only get better. What we got was national debt at record levels, youth unemployment at record levels and unemployment still on the rise.
HeadingNorth
Only another million and a half till we get to the tory levels then. 750,000 below now, when Labour came to power, was the Tory level. Which party do you think was in charge before Blair came to number ten?
anarchist
Only another million and a half till we get to the tory levels then. The Tories handed over falling unemployment and a healthy economy. Labour have increased unemployment and destroyed the economy. Whatever happened to "no more boom and bust?" Tipex
I think we're all to blame. Our attitudes and way of life has changed.
HeadingNorth
I think we're all to blame. Our attitudes and way of life has changed. It's simpler than that; we just live too long. Working from 18 to 65, at the rate we used to contribute to the pension pot, just doesn't produce enough money to pay pensions from 65 to death. TeaFan
What will the unemployment figures look like when they've moved 80% of disabled and ill people from ESA onto JSA, and got rid of 250,000 public sector jobs?

Well as a million public sector jobs were created since 1997 in order to get the unemployment figures down, it will probably be a more accurate reflection of how British jobs have migrated abroad. chem1st
There is no incentive to work for certain parts of the population. Allow under 25s to claim Working tax credit, up the minimum wage (the wage generally paid to under 25s and those unskilled). Provide affordable housing for the poorest workers. It is not rocket science.

But that is well past it's sell by now. As Labour is running out of cash those jobs are starting to go but I expect Brown will find a new way to fiddle the numbers so it looks like they aren't as crap as they really are. By the way you forgot to mention the "new labour' Pound" to anything exchange rate. The good old quid is worth 3 beans and a slap in the mush since Labour made things better. That, sweet boys and girls, means all your cheap electronics will be costing you more. While we are on the go, Oil is traded in US$ so your petrol is going up and up as a direct result of Labour being crap. About 25% raw fuel cost increase in three years just because of that. That means higher transport costs for business as well as the public. That means higher prices so less sold. That means less people needed so higher unemployment. That also means you can't afford the foreign holiday you would have had if you weren't so scared you are about to lose your job. It's coming crashing down rapidly. Vote Conservative this time and hope they still have chance to rescue Britain from what Labour have done.
