There was a real underground movement in Sheffield back then. Just about every pub you went in, Buccaneer, Nelson, Albert, or even the Whetstone had loads of alternative music playing.

Amon Duul ..Faust ..Gong..PFM.. anyone remember 'em........:hihi:

Was it Pippy's?

It was indeed Pippy's, I sold them my old bike jacket after buying a new one from Lewis Leathers up the Moor.

I went back a week later and bought it back as i couldn't be parted from it.

They sold those puzzle rings that never went back together again after you undid em.

It was a great pub in the early 60's, there was always a band on upstairs at the weekends, they were university students from memory, and they knew all the songs of the day, and were quite good.

Round the corner at the Minerva was alright too, but a lot of people didn't like going in there as the lighting was turned very low and it was quite dark, that too had bands on at weekends, funny to see 5 blokes jammed together on a little stage in the corner of the room, but they were happy days, when Sheffield was full of music.

I'm glad you mentioned the Minerva, it was the second pub I ever went in, that'd be late '49. I'd got chucked out of the Bath Hotel being under age, so me and a mate took a chance and went down to the Minerva. No problem there, I've never seen a place so packed out, it was jumping. There could've been a major murder going on and nobody would've noticed. They had live music back then too but it was usually a singer doing the old favorits, like the old music halls.
