stun
hi manxdeedah some information about J.E.Parkers haulage I worked there twice in the sixties very suprised to see picture of atkinson 8 legger reg no.3296w .I drove this truck all over uk ,top speed of 32mph, delivering reels of toilet tissue paper collect from dixens paper mill to british tissues locations at either ellsmereport, garstang near blackpool, barrow in furness or bridgend south wales. Sometimes loading steel coils at andrews toledo rolling mill. In the photo the truck is loaded with reels of tissue paper. Some time in 1968 I lived at lowedges and needed a weekend off to move to a bungalow I managed to somehow buy on parkers wages[overworked and definetly underpaid] at millhousegreen near penistone when asked why I needed the time off I said Iwas struggling to move my furniture with my anglia van the reply I got from Vic Parker was quote your truck will be loaded when you arrive back saturday morning deliver the load and then do your removel after using the atki then you wont need sunday off Parkers at that time was a family firm run by Eddy Parker together with Vic parker,Roy parker,Barry Parker[When everything fails panic] and rosemary in the office. One quote from Vic was, give me an hour and get that truck loaded, when pay day arrive there was always one hour short mention this to Vic the reply was I did say give me an hour. I have many happy memories working for Parkers although the pay and conditions were atrocious the entertainment was good
Puffin4
I knew the parkers in another context. They owned a pig farm on Richmond Road, Richmond (a hobby farm). I knew Barry at school and used to help out with him on the farm (unpaid of course). I think Vic lived in the farmhouse. Mike
