hitman2010
So that country is to become the first to ban the burka, and it looks like France and others are going to follow suit,is it too much to hope that this country does the same? http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2954404/Belgium-first-to-ban-the-burka.html

hard2miss
Good on them, this should be brought into law from the EU and have a blanket ban. (not a ban on blankets, well unless you put a slit in it and throw it over your head)
Vague_Boy
Maybe Gordon Brown should tell them what bigots they are.

Scozzie
So that country is to become the first to ban the burka, and it looks like France and others are going to follow suit,is it too much to hope that this country does the same? http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2954404/Belgium-first-to-ban-the-burka.html there are already hypocritical discrimitory rules in place at some places. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/4534903.stm "Guidelines say intimidating behaviour by groups or individuals, anti-social behaviour including swearing, and wearing clothing which deliberately obscures the face such as hooded tops and baseball caps, will not be allowed." but it says nothing about burkas. So if someone wearing a baseball cap was sitting on a seat next to someone in a burka, how could they justify telling someone to remove their cap as it 'obscures the face'? boyfriday
Maybe Gordon Brown should tell them what bigots they are. I think telling people what they can and cannot wear is an excellent example of bigotry. A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigotry
Treatment
I think that Brussels has just ensured that it will be next in line, after New York, Madrid and London.
cgksheff
I think telling people what they can and cannot wear is an excellent example of bigotry. A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigotry But the origins of the word are rooted in religous intolerance. The Belgium laws make no reference to religion or religous dress.
Cynic
I assume this is also going to apply to balaclavas, hats worn with a scarf etc ?
