We didn't start it ! I remember giving my pint pot, the chunky type with a handle, to a chap I thought was a glass collector. He wandered across the dance floor to his mates and stood grinning at us.

You could hear the banjoes tuning up.

At this moment our numbers were a bit low, as a tranny van full had just escorted some young ladies home.

Just like in the movies the cavalary arrived and a good time was had by all.

Loved the place ....... the Haychatters mob weren't to keen on us ...:hihi: :hihi:

What was the name of that Disc Jockey (disk jockey, showing my age :(), wasn't it '' Little something?''.

I can't remember his name, but other posters on here mention John Lenigan, he may have been known as little John, the original 's grave is in Hathersage !! :)

Did you know the Firth Brown lads ? I was one of them, unfortunately 2 of the leading characters that night are no longer with us, Big Mick Duncombe and Dave Brawn. rip

No, I regret that I didn't. What happened was that a week or two after the ''ruck'' I mentioned to a (then) lad, Chris, that I had taken my sister's boyfriend and my sis' out for a quiet evening/disco to show him northern hospitality, and it had ended up like a scene from a cowboy film.

Chris then said that he had heard about the ruck, and that some of his mates were talking about it.

I can't recall Chris's surname at present, but he was a bright lad with long lanky hair who had been to High Storrs, and done well, but he didn't want a job pen pushing.

I remember a night in 1974 when there was a punchup from hell. It was like a scene from a Wild West saloon, with people sliding across the floor into tables, and then getting clouted with chairs over the head. I believe that the disc jockey was taken to Hospital.

Someone later said that it was the Firth Brown lads.

A bit embarrassing as I was showing this place to my now brother in law (a Southerner) as an example of a nice night out near Sheffield.

Was anyone on here there that night ???

I was there that night, indeed, disc jockey,John lenighan was taken to hospital,a few were arrested including me!! John received quite a kicking!!Bit sore myself for a few days!! We were told it was a group of lads from a steelworks,so Firth Brown lads could be correct!! We were all back there the following week, including DJ John, quite a hero of mine at the time,he appeared fearless,he wasn't the biggest guy in the world!! The lads from the steelworks were big blokes if memory serves!!
