I was in NY last year and we ate several times at Grand Central station - lots of choice, but try finding an empty table and chairs! We stayed in a hotel off Central Park and usually ate locally in the vicinity of the Metropolitan Opera House. Prices were much cheaper than midtown Manhatten.
