2010 General Election megathread

Recommended Posts

Why don't they? Lib + Lab would = more than Tory.

It would only give them a 9 seat majority, which when you include all the minor parties isn't enough to produce a workable majority for any period of time. Especially when you consider that extremely unpopular choices will need to made, very soon. Can you see all the Labour and Lib-Dems and the minority parties MPs agreeing to the specific unpopular cuts with their own individual interests. I can't.

There is still one seat left to come in, and that should also be a Tory seat.

The Liberals, as Labour and the Tories, haven't got the funds to fight another general election so soon, so is that a really an option?

Don't kid yourself.

Labour and the Lid Dems haven't but I'm sure the Tories wouldn't have any trouble raising the odd £50 million with the real prospect that they'd get an overall majority.

I was trying to be even handed, however there is a rumour doing the rounds questioning Lord Ashcroft's enthusiasm.

Looks like the Tories started fundraising for a second election even before the votes had been cast for this one.

So it does seem that the options available to Clegg are limited, and his opportunities to try to force his policies upon the Tories are also limited.

So what happens if we get a split decision again, I know we are probably all fed up of hearing it but the system is broken, it may have been fine under a two party system but that’s not the case anymore?

Split decisions only tend to come round once every 30 odd years. Because we got a hung parliament this time with FTP doesn't mean the next one will be. Most likely a once in a generation opportunity for PR.
