Neanderthal genes present in modern populations

Recommended Posts

If we are descended from Neanderthal man, why are people surprised that we share genes?

Before the latest news there was not enough evidence to prove we were descended from them. we were cousins who had the same ancestors . Now we apparently are descended partly from neanderthal , that's where the ginger comes from. Lol by breeding with them some time after the evolutionary split from the common ancestor. Remember we are more closely related to chimpanzee's than a horse is to a donkey. And yes horse's and donkeys can breed. Wouldn't surprise me if these sub specis of homosapiens were simply the result of humans breeding with other apes. who knows? Also I do not know how certain you can be examining genes for clues of the ancient past.

Agent smith in the matrix was right!

Our specis travels from one place to another ,breed and use all resources and then move on to repeat the process . Just like a virus !

Unless you're the White part of the species of course....

Please explain or keep your gob shut!

From the opening post:

"The comparison of these two genetic sequences enables us to find out where our genome differs from that of our closest relative," said Professor Paabo.

The results show that the genomes of non-Africans (from Europe, China and New Guinea) are closer to the Neanderthal sequence than are those from Africa.

The most likely explanation, say the researchers, is that there was limited mating, or "gene flow", between Neanderthals and the ancestors of present-day Eurasians."
