We can always resort to facts - Police numbers increased by 16,000 between 1979 and 1997. They then dropped from 1997 to 2000 before 9/11 and the 'War on Terror' when Blunkett pulled Brown's budget finger out and turned the UK into Paranoia Central. The only facts that matter are that budgets are being cut now. Police numbers are being cut now. You can't say that figures from 20 years ago don't matter.
