This is how Russia deals with Somali pirates ..

Recommended Posts

Top marks go the Russians ... at least they get their citizens back while ours (be it their one fault or not) are left to rot.
The russian sailors had barricaded themselves in a safe room, inaccessible to the pirates. So, it's easy enough (all things being relative) to storm a ship, when there is little to no risk of collateral.

That wasn't the case with French and US pleasure yachts some months back, some occupants got killed during the assaults (killed by pirates or specops, the controversy rages on).

Credit's due where credit's due and all that, but... "to defeat without peril, is to triumph without glory".

Whilst western countries put on the velvet gloves when dealing with Somali pirates the Russians just couldn’t give a ****. The pirates who hijacked a Russian oil tanker can testify to that. If they could, because they are probably all dead. Dropped in an inflatable boat with no navigation equipment and told to make their own way home.

Sorry we can't do that, we are Original Signatories of The Antarctic Treaty, you can't dump waste there, even human.

Good point. I was watching The Daily Show recently, and Jon Stewart interviewed Richard Phillips who was plugging a book about his experiences. He complained that they weren't allowed to carry weapons, but said that might change shortly.

Perhaps building safe rooms is the better option? After all, they usually spot the pirates a mile off, just can't do anything about it.

Certainly makes the Royal Navy look a bit stupid when they just sat and watched the British couple being hijacked and did nothing.

blackbeard cant your pirates make them walk the plank in the english channel....if they drown they can stay...if they survive...we send them to china...

Once again my crew and I must turn down your very interesting offer. Maritime regulation insist that all visitors to the ship must wear hard hats, be given a safety talk, a high visibility jacket, life vest and if there is any danger of falling be given a harness and safety line. The result would be that there is a very good chance that each one would survive the plank exercise and we would then be compelled to transport them to China for you. This would then fall foul of the Human Trafficking Act. Sadly it is getting harder and harder to make an unhonest living.
