Bonjon
If you want a reliable car, get a Peugeot 306 diesel, as new as you possibly can, with preferably under 100,000 miles. There's a reason they're highly sought and why mine on Ebay fetched £800 even after it was written off! Younges of Sheffield have a 306 diesel in, £1695: http://users.autoexposure.co.uk/vehicle.cfm?Account=AETA49906&Style=4&Id=AETV46347451&Image=http://images.autoexposure.co.uk/AETA49906/AETV46347451_1c.jpg Believe it or not that is my old 306 that I traded in last saturday for a newer 307!! Wow.
Dick
You'll not get a car for £1500 at Manheim Rotherham. Not on their Wednesday auctions anyway. More like £5k minimum.
GrannyGranny
With that budget I would avoid an Auction. It will be full of sheds and part ex's from back street traders that they can't sell. Go onto the Autotrader site and there are plenty both from private and traders. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201017357827445/sort/priceasc/usedcars/price-from/1000/price-to/2000/transmission/manual/fuel-type/petrol/engine-size-cars/1-4l_to_1-6l/maximum-mileage/up_to_80000_miles/postcode/s24ap/radius/10/page/2?logcode=p http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201019358810048/sort/priceasc/usedcars/price-from/1000/price-to/2000/transmission/manual/fuel-type/petrol/engine-size-cars/1-4l_to_1-6l/maximum-mileage/up_to_80000_miles/radius/10/page/3/postcode/s24ap?logcode=p or try Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2001-FORD-MONDEO-LX-SILVER-/320532072068?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4aa1334684
mike84
A Peugeot reliable? Really?! Never thought i'd hear that. Most people i know with french cars in general are always having one problem or another. Maybe you got very lucky Our old 306 hdi estate had 265k on the clock when we got rid. It was a bit tired bit was still pulling well. In 120k I used it for it needed nothing apart from Tyres and servicing. I had a 306 dturbo as well before that, 50k in it and nothing required apart from a total rebuild after being squashed by a lorry on a round about! Shame the insurance wouldn't pay for it doing! Panthera
at the auctions its best to go on one of the fleet sales days, get a decent ex fleet car with full service book and only motorway miles which have just reached the end of thier 2 or 3 year leases. most of the auction houses have fleet auctions
