Information on George & Lydia Radford

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am looking for any relatives or information regarding a George and Lydia Radford who owned the Railway Hotel on Broughton Lane in Attercliffe at the end of the 19th century. In 1880 George Radford purchased two plots of land one from a Thomas Brooks and the second from the Trustees of the third Woodland View Land Society. I am looking for information as I currently own the property that was built on the two plots and am trying to trace some history of it.

There's this, courtesy of sheff-indexers site:

Radford, George (, Inns & Taverns).

Residing at Railway Hotel, Broughton Lane, Attercliffe, Carbrook, etc. in 1871.

Recorded in: Whites Sheffield & District Directory - 1871.

On the 1871 census, this is George Radford with his iwfe Lydia and their children:

Name: George Radford

Age: 48

Estimated birth year: abt 1823

Relation: Head

Spouse's name: Lydia

Gender: Male

Where born: Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England

Civil parish: Attercliffe Cum Darnall, Broughton Lane, Railway Tavern.

Ecclesiastical parish: Trinity

Town: Attercliffe

County/Island: Yorkshire

Country: England

Registration district: Sheffield

Sub-registration district: Attercliffe

ED, institution, or vessel: 12

Household schedule number: 233

George Radford 48

Lydia Radford 43

Emily Radford 22

George Radford 14

On the 1851 census George is a "Boatman" living at "Canalside".

It looks as though Jeremiah Radford had the Railway Inn before George Radford took over.
