Dog of war
Well I think if they did, it would be a vote winner.
Jeffrey Shaw
I don't see it as authoritarian. Infact it was essentially made to be the very opposite. The American Bill of Rights comes from the same ideas, and is something that the Conservatives want in Britain. So what? The Conservative Party with their LDP colleagues and New Labour are all hopelessly besotted with the EU, whence the 'human rights' nonsense mostly emanates. Once the UK is independent again, it can decide freely how to conduct all international relationships and what laws it does or does not want- not be trampled underfooot by Eurocratic crazies. Meanwhile, back in the real world, I'm not sure "besotted with the EU" is an accurate phrase to use to describe the Tories - obsessed yes, but besotted? Big time
Legally we could ignore everythign sent down from europe but in reality it won't happen. anyways parliment makes the law it is for our judges to interpert them, as is the same with parliament interpreting european law into our own system. Britain is probably the most compliant of all the EU members, whereas France and Italy often stick two fingers up to EU directives.

Hmm, according to some bikers on here, France are rolling over to the EUs demands on new biker safety measures.
Anna B
There is nothing wrong with the Human Rights act as it stands. It is there for our protection and woe betide anyone who wants it done away with. What is wrong, is the interpretation of the act, and this is in the hands of the Judiciary. Blame the judges who interpret the act in bizarre ways, not the act.
