I noted that the money will be put in trust and cannot be used to pay damages in RC clerical child abuse cases. They're not going to use that money, sure, but effectively they kind of are. Imagine you owed £10 to someone who I really didn't like, let's call him Steve. You only have £10, so you don't really want to lose all your money, you need it to spread lies about condoms in Africa go out, that would suck. So you ask me to loan you £10, and I say yes, on the condition you don't use it to pay back Steve because I think he's a douche. You then use your own £10 note to pay back steve, and use mine to spread lies about aids in Africa go for a night on the town. While you may not have actually used my money for what I didn't want you to the fact that you the extra £10 meant that you could pay back Steve without having to worry about other stuff.
