Guest sibon
Digging this up again - BBC news now reporting the pretty obvious - "Coalition government axes £2bn of projects" including the Sheffield Forgemasters £80 loan and the suspension of the Sheffield Sevenstone Retail project at £12m. Meanwhile, HMRC are owed £34 million by Portsmouth FC, who are in the process of agreeing a deal with creditors to only pay back 20%. It's a funny old world. Tony
Meanwhile, HMRC are owed £34 million by Portsmouth FC, who are in the process of agreeing a deal with creditors to only pay back 20%. It's a funny old world. HMRC are too busy out at lunch. Whitehall's most wined and dined civil servant is HMRC's Dave Hartnett Whitehall’s most wined and dined mandarin was treated to corporate hospitality on 107 occasions over the past three years, according to new research. Dave Hartnett, the permanent secretary for tax at HM Revenue & Customs, topped a survey of 172 senior civil servants carried out by researchers at City University. They found that the civil servants were entertained on 3,151 separate occasions between 2007 and 2009, including trips to the tennis at Wimbledon, football matches at Chelsea and Manchester United, opera performances and fashion shows. taxman
HMRC are too busy out at lunch. Dave Hartnett is lucky to still have a job at HMRC. His position was made redundant a couple of years ago but instead of being made "pre-surplus" like everyone else who lost their job he had a special, highly paid role created for him. Tony
Free swimming for children and OAPs to be axed. It was never free. The customer didn't pay but the local authority did.
Greybeard
Cameron said he was going to axe a lot of quangos but I've not read of any that have had the chop yet. So far it seems that LA services are the only thing being scrapped.
Wildcat
With the removal of funding for the regeneration of the City Centre it looks like we will be left with a large building site for the foreseeable future. Something likely to hasten the decline started by Meadowhall.

Banks can have loans to bail them out when they caused the destabilisation, yet it's 2 fingers up to ordinary people. Hope the people of Hallam remember this in a few years time.
