Another Sheffield Hero-Sgt. Eric Glossop

Recommended Posts

I came across an article in an old 1944 Sheffield Star newspaper.

It told the story of a 20year old pilot Sgt. Eric Glossop.

He who avoided houses in Lincolnshire before his plane crashed.

His home address was given as 35 Thorpe House Road Sheffield.

When I read it I thought how brave he was, what an hero and so young.

Does anyone else know anything about Eric?

Reading about people like this, makes me feel really humble, now that's a HERO :):)

Hi Skelly Q

The newspapers are on microfiche at the Local History Library on the 1st floor of the Central Library.

I have only seen 1 report of this flying incident but there could be other accounts as there is more than one newspaper covering the Sheffield area.

It is also to be remembered the same day newspapers were printed in different editions to cover Early and Late as well as the regional copies.

As far as I'm aware the Star newspaper is on the one daily edition on microfiche and so there may be other writeups elsewhere.

There is an RAF association somewhere in Yorkshire with a large collection of documents, p

photos etc.

They may be able to help you, I'm sorry I do not have a contact number but I'm sure someone will know.

Happy Days! PopT
