truconstruct
should have, and I quote " It’s thought that many motorists are being caught out because the small print about licence renewal is exactly that – very small print. It’s tucked away on the back of the photocard under the section named ‘4b’. To find out what section ‘4b’ pertains to, the driver has to check the even smaller print on the reverse of the card, and when they do, they’ll see that it refers to a photocard ‘valid to’ date, which will be 10 years from the date of issue. The DVLA have sent out reminders to everyone who needs to get their photocard licences renewed but it seems that people aren't reading them or don't understand what is being asked of them. This could be because confusingly, next to the 'valid to' date, is another date which is the day before the driver turns 70 years old, and this is the date when the actual driving licence expires - not the photocard. " Oh yes, the wife did say I get a letter telling me I needed to renew my licence on my 70th birthday. Seems to be this is a deliberate scam, couldn't work with me though I have a US licence as well. How will the US licence help you out - since that will not allow you to drive after 12months of living here?

cgksheff
If you want to keep driving legally ... Yes Yes. That's OK. Technically speaking you are updating the photo on the photocard. You are still licensed to drive, but the photocard which you must have, by law, to prove this, needs renewing.
