'Sex Worker' not 'Prostitute', PC gone mad

Recommended Posts

I don't think it should be sex worker and not prostitute, you could say any one working in a parlour, for an agency or independent as an escort is a 'sex worker'.

The word 'prostitute' is normally used for someone who stands on the streets and 'escort' gives more the belle de Jour idea. Despite the actual description of 'prostitute' meaning that these jobs are the same the media and peoples ideas do appear to be different.

It might tell you she works as a prostitute, but that's not who she is. There's negative vibes to any work involving sex, lap dancer, stripper, pro that you don't get with any other job. imo. If you say she's a checkout operator, you don't think that rules her entire life, but people seem to think that with sex workers, like they're a different species of person. Ya get mi?

You're right, it seems to define them entirely as a person and leads to all kinds of assumptions being made about her character. It doesn't just apply to paid sex work though, how often do we here men and women dismiss women as 'slags, slappers' etc.

Yes when the media say 3 prostitutes it does annoy me, yes the fact that they worked as prostitutes does need to be mentioned as a high priority to warn other women but in most news reports you don't hear of the job in the second word.

These three women were killed because they were prostitutes not pole dancers or lap dancers, calling them 'Sex Workers sends out the wrong message, calling them prostitutes send out the correct message which is, "That being a prostitute out on the streets in dangerous!"

They were killed, most probably, because they are women who happened to be prostitutes and were, therefore, an easier target.

They were not killed *because* they were sex workers, they were killed because they happened across a psycho during their day. Have you heard of Suzy Lamplugh?

Let's wait till the trial to find out what his motivation was in his own mind.

I wonder if giving his name as the Crossbow Cannibal in court was an attempt to portray himself as a nutter and get the softer Broadmoor option or has any basis in fact? Again we'll have to wait till the trial to find out.
