Ford fiesta or peugeot 306

Fiesta pal

306's are more hassle than they're worth

The last 306 estate I owned had 265k on the clock when I got rod of it, was still pulling well although the interior was well worn! It had done some work. Regular servicing was all I ever did to it. Never needed any major work in the time I owned it.

I have had 3 citreons and a peugeot 206 and I love french cars. The 206 is not much smaller than the 306 and might be worth considering. I've a 1.4 diesel and it goes up Hagg Hill pretty well and is currently doing 50mpg, which is important in the current climate. Because it has low CO2 emissions its only £35/year road tax.

As a 306 owner I'm trying to say 306 but it depends on what you're aiming for.

Speed and power: Being young this is most likely = 306

Cheap parts: Fiesta

Being pulled over by the feds every 5mins: Fiesta

Having the ability to sell it for near as damn it what you paid for it: 306

Insurance: 306

Not wanting to have it nicked: 306

Cheap garage bills: Fiesta

There's pro's and cons on both sides really...personally I hate old fords, having owned a few they are so bloody unreliable but hey, at least they are cheap to put right.

I suggest you get an insurance quote on both vehicles before you decide because at your age for a first time insurance you will be looking at a premium of about £1,000 if not more.

ye thats only on parents insurance haha, could be looking at more if taking insurance out on there own!

The only problem with the two cars are; poor stying, both interior and exterior, whilst Ford have cheap parts, they're incredbly easy to break in to and have away in under a minute.

I'm just on my first car, had it a year and half ish. I have a Fiat Bravo 1.2, I know, I know, Fiat right? I've had it for 10k miles, and nothing major has gone wrong, parts I've had to replace was down to my own stupidness.

Problem with them is it's a Fiat...so they're known for unreliability, and the interior is fitted to a poor quality, get more rattles and creaks than you should, however the ones after 1999 have new revised engines mine is a 1.2 16v engine producin' 80BHP which you will find is considerably more than most 1.2's around that age. They look great considering it's almost 11 years old, and the interior comes with electric windows, sunroof, power steering an airbags as standard...sounds like I'm tryna sell it now... but thought it might be good to throw another spanner in your works

my statement was s**t,end of.

:hihi:

Moving on ... for me, definitely a 306. Fiesta's can be cramped and uncomfortable, with poor seats if you are tall. Fiesta's Zetec engine is eager (1.25, 1.4) but avoid a 1.3 like the plague. A 306 is in the class of an Escort or Focus, a Fiesta compares to a Clio. If you can cover the insurance of a D-Turbo (group 8 iirc) it gives a good balance of performance and economy. With either car you need to make sure you buy one that's been properly cared for.

The 306 had probably the best styling of any car in it's sector when it was launched.
