Harleyman
12th May 1999. In that case why was a Scotsman Prime Minister of England until a few weeks ago? Whose the Prime Minister of Scotland? An Englishman?
JFKvsNixon
In that case why was a Scotsman Prime Minister of England until a few weeks ago? Whose the Prime Minister of Scotland? An Englishman? Scotland has always had a different legal system to the rest of the UK, they also gained a parliment with a first minister in 1999, it was this legal system and their parliment that freed the terrorist. So why was Brown taking the heat over the release. Wouldn't it have been fair enough to tell his critics 'Dont blame me, blame the other Jock up north" Things look pretty screwed up anyway. Scotland is now running it's own internal affairs yet there are Scottish MPs in Westminster as part of the government deciding how things should be run in England. To be honest Brown didn't take too much stick as the Scottish Parliament took responsibility for the terrorists release. As for the Scottish MPs voting on matters in the UK, but not in Scotland, it's a 25 year old debate known as the West Lothian Question.
