Fatal shootings in Cumbria

Recommended Posts

Just a small point but as far as anybody was aware, this man was a law abiding gun-owner until he decided abiding by the law didn't matter any more to him.

Described as a 'placid and happy man' something turned him into a crazed killer.

It is inevitable that firearms ownership will be top of the political agenda again whether you think it stupid or not.

Its important to remember too that if someone is intent on doing something like this and a gun isn't available, they will find other means. Like the knife attack at the Chinese kindergarten last month or that fellow that plowed his car into a Royal Dutch Parade last year.

Or they could use hydrogen peroxide and chapati flour.

Or petrol . . .

Or derail a train

or . . . .

Ah yes! This time they'll go for the middle aged tweed and hunting set.

"Hand over them shotguns and rifles you wicked potential shooting spree people"

That'll cut out any future shooting sprees I'm sure

When something horrible like this mass shooting spree occurs, folk are not only shocked, but want to know more of the details and why it happened.

I first heard of this incident on the radio news at 21.00hrs. I immediately rang my partner to ask if he'd heard about it and what he knew about the incident. I've since been gripped by further news bulletins listening to eye witness accounts of what took place.

I have worked in Whitehaven and surrounding areas and find this incident difficult to comprehend.

Our thoughts go out to the families of the dead and injured. I have just heard the Prime Minister, David Cameron, expressing similar sentiments in parliament. I think he touched the right note on behalf of the whole country.

.... and as an English guy who is a regular visitor to America I couldn't agree more.
Not to carry on the 'bickering' but poppins knows nothing relevant. She knows no more about me than you do. She merely specialises in posting ill informed rants. CottonTop's started a new thread for bickering on.

As has been commented on by several others, this is not the time or place to start discussions/arguments with other forummers about off topic matters, please leave this one for discussion about the terrible events in Cumbria.

It does to those of us who own guns - there may be a stupid reaction from the anti mob saying more law abiding gun-owners should be banned.

True, after Dunblane and Hungerford the only people who were punished were legal firearm owners including our Olympic champion.
