craigmason
If you were planning on going to waddington next month to see the avro vulcan XH558 perform then you may be disappointed see here Following our announcement that we had booked the Vulcan for the air show, we promised to keep you informed with the progress being made with the aircraft. Earlier in the year we held a very constructive meeting with the Vulcan Operating Company, securing the aircraft's appearance at the airshow dependent on a number of factors. The first and most obvious being the airworthiness of the aircraft. XH558 has been in deep maintenance through the winter and is still some way from completion. Although its return to flight is looking good for 2010, the dates of its first test flight are very close to the Waddington Air Show, providing that the project remains on schedule. The second factor relies on the air tests being completed successfully and being signed off by the Civil Aviation Authority, who are the safety regulators for all non military aircraft within the UK. The in depth paperwork requirements can take long periods of time to complete, much of which can only be completed once the air tests have been concluded. Finally, the crew will require a short work up period before displaying in front of the public. The pilots are required to complete 3 full practice displays in front of a CAA approved display authoriser, who will give the rubber stamp to the pilots Display Authorisations, allowing them to display in front of the public. Although the times we have been given are very tight we are still hopeful of the aircraft returning to the skies above Lincolnshire on the 3rd and 4th July 2010. As we know more, we will keep you informed. Sadly the majority of these factors are out of our control, but rest assured all the key individuals are working hard to see 558 back where she belongs.
