Dolphins and many other ocean and seashore dwellers can be transferred from the Pacific to the Gulf area after this mess is finally cleared up in a few years but it's true that the already endangered species particular to the Gulf region might just disappear althogether.

As for the loss of livelhood of the people who earn their living fishing or from the tourist industry I expect that BP will be forced to compensate them in a big big way, also pay for the cleanup cost and the medical expenses of those taken ill as a result of this and I dare say the poor old US taxpayer will also be paying for some of it too.

Anyway BP have the money to cover it all and if paying out results in them eventually going bust who cares. One big oil company more or less wont make much difference in the long run

If this brings about the downfall of BP people will not be thinking about the fish they will b e more concerned about the effect on their pensions.

Funds have traditionally chosen BP because its shares were seen as a relatively 'safe' bet in the long-run, gaining solidly each year and most importantly providing a regular and robust dividend.

But the crisis in the Gulf of Mexico has dramatically changed that outlook.

Doesn't US law limit the bill to the company responsible at $75 million? ....which BP have, voluntarily, already exceeded by a huge amount just in trying to cut off the leak; and they're not even the company responsible.
