An idea to repay the countrys debt!

Recommended Posts

As far as 'legalising drugs' goes, the idea has much to be said for it.

Why not:

1. Buy up all the heroin/cocaine at source (and at current prices - at the prices the producers get.)

2. Set up state-run distribution centres which sell the drugs in single doses at affordable prices to addicts.

3. Make unlicensed dealing a serious offence with a minimum prison sentence of 30 years (time served, not 30 years less remission) for unlicensed dealing.

Buying up the drugs at source would make life very difficult for the dealers (and particularly 'for organised crime' - Supplies would become scarce and expensive.)

The ready availability of drugs through government-licensed distributors would reduce the size of the market for local dealers. - A reduced market plus higher purchase prices (because most had been bought up at source) plus drastically increased penalties if caught would perhaps discourage many of the dealers.

Most of their customers (once they had realised that the government drug supply scheme was genuine) would probably shop at the [far cheaper] 'government outlet'.

Lower prices for end-users would mean less incentive to commit crimes to acquire money to buy the drugs and therefore fewer people imprisoned for crimes committed to obtain the money to buy drugs (though initially - and for some years - an increase in the number of dealers in prison.)
