Why should Council workers face cuts when most are Tory/Libdem?

Recommended Posts

Whoever in local Government approved The Supertram, World Student Games & Sheffield Arena. By-Jesus you just don't get it do you? You just don't understand budgets.....and neither did these people that's why we are in the mess we are in.

It's just some politicians won't play frippery with the tax payers 'visa card' and other politicians don't mind maxing that 'visa card' one little bit!

I'll tell you what, if you removed Supertram and the Sheffield Arena from Sheffield, you'd upset a lot of people!

And actually, if they dont spend what they are given then they have to give it back

You've been telling us for months that they've not had to raise Council Tax, now you are telling us they spend every penny they get.

Contradiction there I'm afraid!

Not to mention council tax rises are at an all time low.
not for long when we all have to pay back for the libdems incompetance :hihi: they should have raised them instead of taking more from central government putting the government even further in debt .

Is this partly because the Councils run by Libdems/Tories have spent too much previously?

Why do you continue to ignore the clear answers who have already received and continue to repeat your false assertions?

Local government spending is closely controlled by central government. In the past years, local governments have spent what they were allowed to (and pretty much required to) by central government. Because, in recent years, central government have overspent (including what they allocated to local government and then required them to spend), the country is short of money. Everyone has to tighten their belts, including local governments. The money to be supplied from central government will be reduced. Nothing at all to do with the past performance of local governments. Yet you continue to plough your disingenuous furrow. Why do you ignore the facts?

How do you reconcile your viewpoint with the following which is taken from a Tory council website:

Limits on council spending

"The Government exerts pressures on local councils to invest in and improve their public services, and also to limit their spending so that budgets do not increase in an unreasonable manner."

So using Sheffield City Council as an example, they have spent within their means to such an extent that no Council Tax rises came in last year, yet their staff will be required to accept pay cuts and job losses.

Surely if all Councils had have been following the philosophy of "

to limit their spending so that budgets do not increase in an unreasonable manner" capacity to implement this policy would not exist.

You can only cut jobs and maintain services if you've not been following the directive as outlined above.

It is obviously torturing.........nay crucifying you and the left, most of you in the public sector that enjoyed unfettered expansion now Gordons gone!

Apart from a desired early general election and smashing of the coalition, what positive steps would you suggest to relieve Britain of the huge burden bequeathed us by the last lot supposedly in charge!

Nothing to reconcile. Pay cuts and job losses do not need to be related to improvements in efficiency (although they might be), they can be caused by there being less money available to pay for the services.

I do not know whether you have a complete inability to understand the basics of economics (in that you cannot indefinitely continue to spend more than you earn), or you are just trolling, and frankly I no longer care. Your posts on this thread are a complete waste of space. Goodbye.

Following the budget deficit reduction plan outlined by Darling. The OBR conceded that it would have worked. Alas.....

That said I can suggest a positive step or you and that is to educate yourself about the deficit. You're obviously clueless about how/why it grew and happy to trot out the Daily Mail headlines.

This is what he does. He grinds you down, pretending not to understand, repeating the same rubbish until you just give up.
