Madmaff
I don't know if anyone can help me but about five years ago I found a site about the history of university house. It was saying that it used to be a mortuary and a man who used to wear a bowler hat was in charge of it and used to be a well known figure in Sheffield. Trouble is I can't find this website or remember the man's name. Does anyone out there know anything about this or the man's name
shayol
Eh? University House was built in the 1960's... there is certainly no mortuary there, but it is close to both the Childrens and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital...
Waltheof
Are you thinking of the old house on Brook Hill, near the roundabout? From what I heard, it was the vicarage for St George's church nearby, before it came into University hands. The hall next to it was built in (I think) 1925 as a village hall or for Sunday schools etc.
Madmaff
As far as I can remember it wasn't a mortuary as such but somewhere bodies were kept for examination, either for autopsies or medical research,
