pinklady
Don't get me wrong - I love a good joke - and I have got a bit of a warped humour - however I have recently found an apt for my phone that specialises in sick jokes. Its an American server - but a lot of the jokes (if that's what you can call them) are sick beyond belief, The majority have the worse racism I have ever heard along with 'joke' upon 'joke' about paedophilia. How the hell do they get away with it? And what kind of sickos laugh at that stuff???
Ghostrider
So, can we assume that you deleted it from your phone ?

esme
please feel free to not mention the name of the site, if people want this sort of thing they can go look for it on their own
pinklady
The key is the word "joke". Actually, the key is the word "sick". The keys here are the words "sick" and "joke". "Sick joke" is what you need to take note of. So the question must be asked, why did you go into something with sick jokes when you clearly don't find sick jokes funny? Obviously my idea of a sick joke is completely different to 'their' sick jokes - what is funny about raping a baby? murdering a blackman - beating a woman? - what I want to know is - surely theres some kind of laws against such racism
scottsmith
I have it on my phone. I think alot of the jokes are funny, some I just don't laugh at, but I don't judge, as the clue is in the name of the App.

Cynic
If the app is based on the site I am thinking of, and the terms used would suggest it is, then I believe it is a UK site, and a bit anti-american too. Some of the jokes aren't funny but they are based on long running themes on the site. Lots of people post in the style of an extreme alter ego rather than what they might post themselves. This is assuming it is the site that could be described as wikipedia for sick jokes?
epiphany
Obviously my idea of a sick joke is completely different to 'their' sick jokes - what is funny about raping a baby? murdering a blackman - beating a woman? - what I want to know is - surely theres some kind of laws against such racism Laughter is for the most part an uncontrollable reflex. If something is funny, it may be more to do with a displacement of expectation rather than the actual substance of the joke itself, although the controversial content may enhance it. A joke is a joke. Perhaps raping a baby is hilarious in certain contexts and to certain people. Laughter is a form of loss of control, but it's unlikely those same people who laugh at the joke would laugh at a true story of a baby being raped. What does that suggest about the psychology behind such jokes? That it's more complex than simply "subject A = offensive, subject B = acceptable". Monty Python were churning out material such as eating a dead woman and throwing up in her grave as an alternative form of burial back in the 70s. It was funny because it was so absurd and challenging to the conventions of social decency, perhaps to make us realise it is manufactured like any other behavioural trait and how easily it can be broken down. Laughter can come purely from a suspension of disbelief. I suppose the ultimate question here is: What makes a joke funny?
