Alex C.
How do you know what they meant? The poster said, 'what's the point of prison?' miaowwoof is the original poster
epiphany
I'm not concerned with punishment, rather what we need to do in order to prevent crime. It's wrong to assume that if the punishment was the most vicious torture imaginable that it would prevent the most serious crimes. Where is the proof that this is the case? Rather than act upon irrational human emotion we should look at it objectively. Victims of serious crime are likely to be at their most irrational (understandably) so we should not let them choose how to deal with offenders, because they will not be thinking clearly and objectively. This is pretty basic stuff.
*_ash_*
What they meant was let the family decide whether to send them to prison or let the public/families make the barstewards' suffer. Letting go free is not an option. Butlins holiday camp aka prison is the lowest option they have!! Ah you've changed your post, so to answer this one.. Why haven't you put in an option for something on the lines of 'Prison is the best option, if it's to work better' The way you've worded the poll directs people to go with the second option. *_ash_*
miaowwoof is the original poster Yes, but BinHad wasn't, and that's who I quoted. whats the point of prison? more than 60% re-offend anyway and if they go straight chances of getting jobs are very slim. They need a short sharp shock, let the victim or victims family decide. What if the victim, or victims family, believe in forgiveness? They decide to forgive and let them off. Where would you stand then?
BinHad
What if the victim, or victims family, believe in forgiveness? They decide to forgive and let them off. Where would you stand then? Then honour it.
Alex C.
Yes, but BinHad wasn't, and that's who I quoted. Ooops, my apologies Then honour it. Cue lots of crimes against overly-religious types.
*_ash_*
Then honour it. You know how easy it would be murder someone if this was the case? example. You want your wife/husband to 'disappear' ... you pay some desperate druggy a few hundred quid. Then in court, forgive him. Wife/husband gone, no one locked up. You're a free man/woman! LibertyBell
From a discussion on another thread I thought I would do a vote. I'm talking about the child beaters, the murderers, the rapists and child murderers etc... BoyFriday on here thinks having your freedom taking away by being put in prison is enough! Personally for these kind of people who hurt kids etc... I would rather see them tied up and sorted out by the families of those they have hurt!!! You don't have to comment as there is enough threads for this! Just vote and let's see what most people think!!!! It might be the majority think it's enough, I'm just interested I won't be voting in your idiotic poll. Thank you.
miaowwoof
Wrong. You underestimate the gravity of what you're asking. You say you're interested and ask others not to add to your thread. Why are you interested? Are you fishing for types of torture? like I said, it stems from a discussion thread. Oh and by the way don't dare tell me I'm wrong, it's all about opinions, no ones including mine are right so calm down dear!! I would also prefer not to talk to someone who has no common decency in his day to day running of his life either, such as you who doesn't turn up for building/repair quotes and doesn't have the common decency to explain why or return a phone call!!! So you can go forth away from this thread for me!!!
