Mercenary
I could do with some advice. I signed a 12 month contract with the gym at Ponds Forge in March 2010 as I worked in the city centre. However, I have now changed jobs and don't either work or live anywhere near the gyms that are part of the company. I have had a contract for about 2 and a half years (the one I signed in March 2010 was as my last one had run out). How likely are SIV to allow me to leave the contract? Has anyone tried this before with any success?
practitioner
Call in anonymously and ask what the implications of breaking your contract are, or if they have a cancellation fee. Hope this helps
Mercenary
Haha yeah that's always an option! My contract says that if I cancel the direct debit then they will get a debt collecting agency on to me. I am thinking about writing a polite letter to them explaining the situation and hopefully they'll just let me leave the contract. Hopefully. practitioner
There has been a few court cases, where people break there contract and eventually win, but looking at this case here I doubt you'd be one of them and its way to much hassle. Unless you made up a story about getting medical advice not to exercise. (That would never happen though, but you can get medical advice not to work out). I would call them and explain but would advise at first you do it anonymously. If they didn't comply I wouldnt personally be to happy, so I would ask you if you need any identification when entering the gym. If no well then you can loan your contract out - sneeky yes I know. Do you need any photo evidence upon entering the premises or is it just sign your name?
