Vague_Boy
How many 3 bedroom houses are available to rent for just over £300 per month? We will see a massive increase in homelessness. House price boom 1997-2007 = ludicrously high rents. I blame Gordon "I will not let house prices get out of control" Brown.
Vague_Boy
I'm not sure there was a mass exodus of the rich in the 70's Anyone remember the "brain drain"? Britain has lost more skilled workers to the global "brain drain" than any other country, according to a report by the World Bank. More than 1.44 million graduates have left the UK to look for more highly paid jobs in countries such as the United States, Canada and Australia. That far outweighs 1.26 million immigrant graduates in the UK, leaving a net "brain loss" of some 200,000 people. The findings will fuel concerns that Britain's failure to defend its manufacturing, science and university base is pushing highly skilled workers overseas and risks damaging long-term productivity. LINK Oh wait, that was 2005, not 1975.
TJC1
The cuts are more derisive to London, and I feel bad for people there because rent is soooo expensive. It is taking money from the people that need it most, but what did we expect from a con govt?
ricgem2002
Non story, this is part of the government white paper on benefit reform that is not law yet and is still going through parliament. This part of it is being heavily debated and may not be introduced in its current form into the bill. Don't worry about it just yet if its a non story how come its being talked about in parliament
discodown
if its a non story how come its being talked about in parliament Because its being reported as fact when the bill isn't law so in fact it can't happen
ricgem2002
The problem here is that if you change something, some people WILL be affected, and this is just a fact of life. The stories the media is trying to dredge up are sad, of course, but there will always be repercussions for a change like this and there will always be some negative consequences. This is why the country is in such a dire position; the sheer terror of changing anything because the country will go in uproar over the negative changes of a minority. What's worse, the Government has clearly made attempts to protect these individuals with genuine cases, so I cannot see how this is a genuine story. so you think its ok for this government to make people move out of their homes ? or even make them even more less well off . this government is picking off its weak and vunerable people while the rest of us stand by and let it happen .
