Mathematical question

Recommended Posts

Mamalocha has given the correct answers, but I always work it out the opposite way to how she has done.

Arrival time in Dubai is 7.20am Dubai time, which is 4.20am London time: 9.20pm to 4.20am is seven hours.

Departure time for return flight, 3pm Dubai time is noon London time - noon to 7.40pm is 7 hours 40 minutes.

As for the longer time flying westbound, that's almost always the case for all flights; the jet stream flows around the globe from west to east, and flying westbound invariably means a headwind.

The weight, plus or minus, of a few extra passengers and cargo will make a difference to the amount of fuel it takes, but I doubt it affects the speed the aeroplane will reach. It's the wind that causes the difference in estimated times.

mathematical time difference question:

ok so can someone calculate the duration of the flights here:

first flight:

depart UK: 2120 on the 24th

arrive at dubai: 0720 (am) on the 25th

second flight:

depart dubai: 1500 on the 29th

arrive in UK: 1940 on the 29th

note: dubai time: +3hrs

please explain your answer

is this your homework.

Prevailing wind from the west. twenty minutes faster with wind behind going.

twenty minutes slower coming back into wind, 20 + 20 = 40 min slower on return
