Life Modelling. How to get started?

It's not a good wage. My art class had been speculating on what our model was being paid per hour. We decided it must be around £18. In reality it was just over £6.

 

£6 per hour!? ... that's disgraceful! (I presume you mean per sitting for a group?)

Perhaps it'd be fairer to charge each artist per hour to draw/paint and get the pay up to something reasonable ... maybe £20+?. If that's just a group of four artists that comes to £5 each ... obviously, if it's ten, then its only a couple of quid.

That is if you are paid by a college or Museums Sheffield, as they pay a standard £7.50 ph, and you have to go through the books.

 

Our models get paid better than that, rest assured.

It was a college course, so you'll be more right than me about the pay. Not a lot for getting your kit off and staying still for four hours.

I suppose if you set up your own life drawing classes you could make a lot more. I've never heard of life drawing classes that weren't full
