HenHugger
I'm not sure where to post this so please feel free to move it mods... I'm wanting to write a book, factual not fiction, but have no idea how the process works. Can anyone give me a rough guide to it all? I've got the layout and words all sorted in my head, so the concept is in place. I could probably write it within a few weeks, and intend to make a start within the next week or two. How do i go about getting it published? Do I speak to the publishers before I write it, or do I take it with me to sell it to them? I have absolutely no idea what the next steps are. Any advice gratefully received!

slimsid2000
Join a creative writing course for feedback and advice. As for publishing you will need to try sending of the manuscript or sample chapters or try to get an agent.
HenHugger
But is that relevant for a factual guide (which is what I'm wanting to write) rather than a fictional story or biography etc? Sorry, it's really an area I know nothing about. But I guess we all start somewhere!
slimsid2000
A creative writing class is relevant for any kind of writing (even factual writing). Even if nobody there knows anything technical about your subject they can advise you about things such as style of writing, prose etc. The hardest part is getting published. PC Brigade
Top tip - learn how to use the verb 'to want' I want - NOT I am wanting He wants - NOT He is wanting They want - NOT They are wanting Unless you are writing in the style of racist 70's sitcom about foreigners.... http://www.englishclub.com/grammar/verbs-m_vmwct_1.htm
