Car advice Clio with Immobiliser problems

Recommended Posts

I realise that now, unfortunately i bought the car when I was desperate (no car, no work = no pay!) I went on my own, and drove it and didn't really have a clue, all my own fault and lesson heavily learnt. He explained it was cat C but told me it wasn't a big deal and I have a whole service history from when the car was made.

I've just swallowed all the repairs I've had to have done since I got it but not sure where the immobiliser comes into it. I'm in a position where I can't be without a car, can't afford a newer one (for a least 6 months), and can't afford to chuck good money after bad so need to make the best of a bad situation, hence me hoping I can get the immobiliser disabled.

just a thought but try JS services on meadowbank road in Rotherham they are Renault specialists and may be able to do something for you. I have had a cat d car before which is minor write off but cat c is a worse write off and needs a special test when its put back on the road, I dont think you will get much back if you ever sell it.

Did he fit a new ECU? sorry if that sounds dumb :hihi: or disable to immobiliser?

No he just plugged, what looked like a big calculator into a lead under the dash, and typed in the model and year, then hey presto the car started.

Got to be worth a try, call him and explain your situation, and he will give you a quote over the phone.

Good look

Thanks for the suggestion. Rotherham might be too far as it's more than likely I would need someone to come to the car as it won't drive, and it's in Heely at the moment

I'd never try and sell this car, It's not worth much and I couldn't sell it on given the trouble I've had. It just wouldn't be right.

Thanks

I've no idea to be fair, cos they looked at it at the garage where it currently is.

I'm going to have the immobiliser disabled, I've been recommended a company that can do this so the garage are going to take out the ECU I'll send it off to them and then the garage will put it back in.

Grrr I hate this car can't wait till I can get another one.

Thank you so much for your help

Hi

I can disable the immo in your ecu. I am in rotherham and would require the ecu only. I suspect the ecu is a Safir type and takes 2 or 4 hours to disable using my equipment. Ive done quite a few Renault ecus dashes kecards etc. I work self employed repairing car related electronics, including radio repair and decoding (been doing this work for over 25years now, working for some of the big companies.

Pm me if youre interested (same day service)

  • 3 years later...

I am sorry to drag up an old thread here but I am having problems with my 2001 renault clio. IT is a 1.4 16v.

It was working fine one day when i dropped my son at nursery but when i got bac k in the car it wouldnt start. It wouldnt bump start and I had to get roadside assistance to get me. They tried to diagnose the problem but found no results that could cause the car to not work. The guy noticed that my immobilizer light was not coming on at all and that normally the light would flash if there was a fault.

A sensor has been replaced (cam shaft?crank shaft?) but the car still isnt working.

My brother in law has looked at the car and apparantly a pin that connects to the ECU is damaged and has been replaced by an actual PIN - as in one from a sewing tin! One of the pins is also completely missing I believe.

HE has told me to buy an enitire new ECU kit (around £100) which he can fit for me but I am nervous about spending this money incase this is not the fault. I am not sure if my problem is the same as the original poster's but I saw @justmeglynn post a response on here and though it might be worth a shot? I cant PM on here yet because I havent made enough posts :(

PLEASE HELP! I am a single mother with a chronic illness and I really need my car!
