How Do I Get Around This?

Recommended Posts

I have this in one eye and was told, by the specialist, that if it got worse or I damaged my good eye, I would require a corneal transplant. Surely this must be an option for you, Jabbers?

The cornea is fine, its the retina... the back of the eye, its messed up and torn and tattered and aparrantly beyond repair.

I was going to knock the cat unconcious and nick his but the RSPCA threatened to sue!

So you can see and this is all a sympathy trip!

Seriously though, I do sympathise as I couldn't image being without my sight.

I used to work with a software developer who was blind in one eye and had serious problems with the other so used a jeweller's loupe glued to spectacle frames so he could see the screen. He even developed our first colour graphics screens and his speed at coding was incredible.

I now work work with an analyst who has the equivalent of a 32" LCD screen as his PC screen and you can see the text from the far end of the room, well he can't, obviously, but the rest of us can.

Whatever happens keep posting on here even if it is the odd pecked out badly worded contribution. Just like now, in fact.

Its not the end of it all for me, I`m not that bothered about losing my sight, after all the west is the best place in the world to lose your sight in. All I need do is think of people in less developed parts of the world, when they go blind its literally a matter of life and death and even surviving must be worse than hell for them so I basically sit back and dont let it get me down at all.

The internet though....

I had to stop using a telescope and binoculars for astronomy and spying on neighbours, I had to stop reading books and pornog... erm... magazines, I had to stop going out alone, I have had to stop so many things that I loved because of this but I managed, got over it and moved on....

Then it dawned on me, the internet... I may not be able to drive people insane on the internet.... thats when I hit the wall!

I just hope that when it DOES go, you`ll all understand that my rabid burblings are because I cant see well enough to understand the topic of any thread that I`m on.

Ok, its not that different to my normal stuff, but....

Damn, just shot myself in the foot there.

Jabbers if you only knew the miracle that is happening in the world of eye ops now. Its too complicated to tell you about. Hang in there.:)

The main thing I`ll miss is seeing my beauty in the mirror! How the hell I`ll manage without seeing that angelic countenence each day, I`ll never know!

Thank god I have a good memory for faces!

You should be able to have this treated with laser eye surgery. My sister has the same condition.

Get in touch with Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind.

They're completely separate from Royal Society and work at a local level. They can offer you all sorts of help. They also work with the partially sighted.

You might have to be referred to them from the hospital, I'm not sure, but they're marvellous. They have a drop in centre and cafe on Mappin Street.
