Nosey people who are always asking what the police are doing

Recommended Posts

Why is it that everyday there is a new thread on here asking what the police are doing on .......road

if it was important it would be on the news :loopy:

Do any of you people who put these threads on ever go and ask the police what is happening :loopy:

Answer 1.

It's called taking an interest in your local community. If summat has kicked off involving a large number of plod, pretty much in your doorstep, it's human nature to be curious.

Answer 2

Importance in these matters is variable and subject to opinion. In light of this, to assume the local news teams would be able to judge importance is rather naive.

Answer 3

Again, several factors govern this. If a local beat bobby (community support officer) is present amongst the other plod, then it's probable that some may ask a friendly and familiar face in the force. On the other hand, if they're clearly busy, then it's fair to say most wouldn't interfere or disrupt their operations.

In return, a rhetorical question . .

How insular do you have to be to assume that everyone is as dis-interested in such posts as yourself?

i am not saying i'm not interested but don't you think the people involved in these things deserve a bit of privacy and might be upset to see that strangers are talking about it on here

i know people don't post exact addresses but the neighbors of these people must know who they are, and they will know they are talking about them

it doesn't happen very often where i live anyway so i don't usually read them

I was very tempted give a bit of tongue in cheek stereotyping based on the fact you live in door, however you've saved me and a number of others the trouble. Nicely done.

Wish I could ask them but they are way up high in the sky. I've noticed at least twice a week helicopter presence in Sharrow late at night between 1 - 2am for the past 6 weeks. I'm assuming it's the police. On one occasion, they were circling an area for quite a while enough to make me paranoid. And it must be not that high as the chopper noise was quite loud and i could see the lights.

Seems there has been more mindless vandalism to cars on my street yesterday and mine didn't get the windscreen smashed this time. I would love to see an interactive site showing where the burglaries and vandalism have been happening. It can't be beyond the police to come up with something. We would actually know where to look out for then.

People could sign up for text alerts if their streets were targeted.

I'm glad your car wasn't damaged by those idiots

That would be a good idea, i don't think they would ever do it though :(

I'm going to ask them why not. The technology is available. The police have a crime mapping system and people have a right to know what crimes are happening in their area.
