The school run!

Recommended Posts

Apparently an amendment is being added to the Highway Code which applies to parents on the school run. Here it is:

1. Keep your eyes firmly on the road ahead and do not give way to oncoming traffic under any circumstances, you always have the right of way because you are on the school run.

2. Ignore all 'give way' signs, they do not apply to you because you are on the school run.

3. Red traffic lights do not apply to you because you are on the school run.

4. Pull up as close to the school gates as possible, ignoring any restictions or common sense. You do not have to indicate when pulling in because you are on the school run.

5. Having dropped your beloved off, pull away when it suits you. You do not have to indicate or use your mirrors because you have finished the school run and are now in a hurry to get on with your day.

6. Pretend your Mini Metro is the size of an Eddie Stobbart lorry with a turning circle bigger than the QE2 because you're on the school run.

7. Should you wish to take your child into the school itself, feel free to stand in doorways and block narrow corridors for a bit of idle chit-chat as you've got all day to do what you wish. Ignore others who have to get off to work or go places.

8. Ensure 'Child On Board' sign is visible at all times.

haha no.4 annoys the hell out of me. where my daughter goes to school because of parked cars on one side there is single lane traffic to get past the school, yet people always stop outside the school gates to let kids out blocking up the road. not not normally a problem if they are quick and use some common sense but several times i've been sat waiting at the bottom at bottom of road while they start chatting!

what annoys me the very most though, is i will be indicating to pull out from where i have actually bothered to park up (so i can escort my child into school) - unlike these people, but on seeing them coming up the road will of course wait for them to pass instead of pulling out on them. what do they do? They stop right in front of or next to me blocking me in when they can clearly see i'm waiting to get out - i have 10 mins to get from the school (when they open doors) all way to work and last thing i want is to get blocked in by ignorant muppets who couldnt have just stopped 10feet further forward (behind me instead of infront) when they can see i need to get out! On waving or beeping at them having blocked me in to try to get them to pull forward i get all sorts of abuse, shouting and hand gestures at me. I am not being unreasonable here in expected them to simply not park in the middle of the road infront of me when i have indicators on - but apparently these idiots only think of themselves. best bit is school has a bit of a car park, you cant park in it but nothing stopping parents pulling in just to let the kids out there so as not to block anyone.

drives me mental. I have a mind to start just pulling out on the culprits blocking their way and see how they like it

10. Make sure you buy the biggest people carrier possible, remembering that your 2 children need seven seats. Don't bother to learn how wide this car is, just drive it on the wrong side of the road. Other drivers will get our of your way because you are carrying your precious Tarquin, who couldn't possibly walk anywhere.

13. You do not have to give way to cars already on a roundabout because you are on the school run

14. It's pefectly acceptable to fling your car door open so that you can jump out and get your kids bags out of the boot, because you are on the school run.
