This mickey mouse government has no authority

However Cameron is a fox hunter supporter, he only wants a free vote in the House of Commons. This would be democracy at work unlike the Labour vote that used the Parliament act to push it through when it would not pass the Lords.

You have an interesting understanding of democracy when you defend a collection of unelected privileged peers blocking the wishes of the elected house.

Arguably, though, a better one than those who are happy to see a government use an illegal act of parliament to force through a bill which cannot pass legally.

But is that our democratic system?

Do we elect a PM? No.

Whether or not you like the House of Lords, you cannot disregard it just because you do not agree with its opinion.

Not sure why invoking the parliament Act is illegal?

A clearer example would be the money bill being introduced by the Conservatives to retrospectively change its contracts with its employees.

No but you can invoke the Parliament Act to assert the authority of the elected house over the unelected house... That too is part of our system.

A point introduced so such acts could bypass the House of Lords, which is an integral part of our democracy. The law was passed on the grounds that Labour would reform the House of Lords. They didn’t bother after, preferring to fill it with their own failed members of parliament.

Maybe the coalition government should pass a law to bypass Labour MP's in votes if they block the will of the elected government? You would be happy with this would you not if it was enacted into law?

The Parliament Act was passed in 1911 and amended in 1949.... I am not sure what you are on about

The Commons is supreme because of those acts of Parliament and the Lords can only block the will of the elected house, until it is invoked. That is the way our system works? Do you think the Parliament Act should be revoked and we should return to a system of Govt whereby the elected house does not have the final say on the way the Country is run? If so then that is an opinion you are entitled to... It isn't however democratic.

What have I said that makes you think I want the powers of the Commons amended?

Typical....with the country teetering on the edge of economic collapse all some folk can fret about is foxhunting.

Do get a life ! :D

Mods.. there's already a multipage megathread about this tired old argument - time to tack this on the end of that ?

unlike the unelected Gordon Clown we had to suffer .

In what fashion was Gordon Brown unelected?

He was a duly elected member of parliament and leader of his party, which was the majority party at the time. Ergo he was PM.

The one who is unelected is this fool Cameron.

He is a leader of a minority party, held up by a fool, in turn the leader of a party that emerged from the election with less support than it went in with.

They are making massive changes to the country, which will be changed back in a few months when we get a responsible government in once more.

They are like kids having a house party, while their parents are on holiday.

Camerons slapped arse face will be running with tears in a few months time.
