iansheff
Just been reading that BT are going to raise call charges by 10% and line rental 50p, however if you sign a 12 month contract upfront you will avoid the increase. It says they are trying to get people to sign up for longer periods and special bundled packages. How can companies be allowed to get away with these types of rises when people are being told they cannot have pay rises? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-10676934

HotPhil
I'd imagine that the ongoing 21CN project to replace the network infrastructure (that will be used by most call providers) is going to cost a fair bit. They'll be bits of copper that have been in place for many many decades. If we all want a better network, then it needs paying for, and locking a lot of subscribers in with a minimum-length contract will no doubt help them secure additional funding.
