rothschild
Had my ancestors not been drunks/gamblers I might be in a different place to what I'm in today. Apparantly at one time the family used to own the toll bridge into Baslow, also the Wheatsheaf pub. From research it would appear that a child of the family was killed by a horse and cart running him over outside of the pub. I believe my ancestors gained the bridge through working on the Chatsworth estate. I really must knuckle down to a bit more family history researching. PopT
I wish you all the luck in finding out about your connections to the Dukes of Devonshire but I think you will find if it gets to a serious claim situation you will be stopped by an injunction from researching any of the Duke's private papers. I believe a bill was passed by the House of Lords to protect them from the many estate claims that were being made by offsprings. PopT
whitehorses
Yep, there's not much you can do about these claims that go way back.Got to face it, some people are going to be poor, some are going to be rich, as they used to say, 'It all depends on which side of the sheet you were born on' !
