If you're looking for bland then you found it. If you just need a base then that'll be fine as there are plenty of other interesting places within driving distance. I am an actual monkey hanger. Definitely go, but I think you could do the towns (there are two) in a day to be honest, as aside from the docks/marina there's not a whole lot to see, but the coast line a few miles north and south is lovely.
