natjack
How come you ended up fighting in Vietnam, Harleyman? Didn't realise you'd become an American that early on. You're right that I've never been involved in a war, and I hope I never have to be either. I didn't realise that you were an American veteran, it explains a lot. I think you're right that you wouldn't have had the life over here that you've had over there, and I can see why you might look down on us. There are just too many of us crammed on this little bit of island and you have to be exceptional, there's not enough scope for everyone to shine. But I still wouldn't swap my country and my heritage just to get your material benefits, which is weird when you really think about it. I always thought I was a material guy! In a nurshell after I emigrated to Canada from England the work I was doing was seasonal and I got laid off and couldn't find a job other than menial. I decided to try my luck in the US but the immigration process would hve taken years A Canadian guy who had served in the US Air Force told me why not just sign up for the US military. They take Canadian citizens. I was somewhat skeptical but went down to New York anyway As I was a Landed Canadian Immigrant with the papers to prove it I was classified as a Canadian for enlistment purposes. I was fast forwarded to be granted permanent resident status There are today many non-US citizens serving in the US military. They're called Green Card soldiers but now they get citizenship very soon after signing up

There musr be a lot of folks in "the Bottom" who have their knickers in a real twist now that Cameron is in charge. My sincerest condolences :hihi: Now we're warmongering IRA loving fools, eh! My goodness Harley, what are we about? Personally I am married to a real Irishwoman, born in County Clare who hates the IRA with a passion. I am very fond of that lovely land and its people. Artisan is no more Irish than the green beer drinking denizens of NYC, Boston, or Chicago except htat they tend to be more fun than Sheffielders. They are Americans and Artisan is British, neither of whom have any right to dictate Irish affairs. I wonder what Boston did to him? He likes to cruise out of San Fran. I've done a bit of cruising in my time for the Grey Funnel line, a bit more arduous than the Mamby Pamby Cruise liners..

To be honest I think that artisan's comments says more about him, than anybody else. I'd like to know about Artisans outings though.

To be honest if I were an American I would keep shut about Vietnam. It must be your countrys most pathetic escapade ever. You have nothing to be proud of. You were beaten by fellows half your size, but with ambition and skill. And the retreat from Saigon was absolutly sad. Sorry Blokes but you are losers. And now you are being smashed by the the Taliban. Until you learn to to smash them into the ground you will not get anywhere. This namby pamby wave bombing is getting nowhere. Until you turn the entire planet into glass will they will not learn. Have you learned nothing from history?
