splodgeyAl
The police officer was doing his job. I have never said that Mr.Tomlinson was guilty of anything, I have said that from the footage we dont know whether he is innocent or guilty of anything, as with all these video's they only seem to start filming when the police are showing a heavy hand, they never seem to show the police when they control matters without being heavy handed, I wonder why that is? So knocking someone to the floor for "walking slowly away with hands in pockets" is doing his job? In Britain, one is innocent until prove guilty, and that is generally what juries are used to determine. Perhaps because "Police Police Protest Properly" is not a news-worthy story? splodgeyAl
Guidelines Thats all they are, guidelines. As is legislation in this country. Law is set by case
harvey19
Probably had an NBC suit at the ready in case Enola Gay was scheduled for a flypast as well... They removed their identity. He had no visible identity, his face was covered, he batoned a man to the floor posing no threat. Next time you people are out in town, a bit worse for wear, similar state to Tomlinson, a bit merry, causing a harmless fuss, and a policeman comes and batons you to the floor for it, beats you hard enough to cause internal injuries, Don't complain will you?.... It's all in the line of duty, and within the law...... I was providing a sensible possible explanation for the face covering, nothing more. How many times had Mr.Tomlinson been asked to move on/out of the way? I didnt know that a jury was required to sort out every altercation that happened in this country, I was always under the impression that they only sat in court cases, you know the ones, its where the CPS think its a serious enough offence to warrant actually taking to court. Guest sibon
So can you give a link to where it states that police officers on protest/riot duty have to have their id on show? Hi Jongo Will this do? Lots of pretty eminent people think that they have to.
Wildcat
And the answer to my question is.... Irrelevant.... whether he was asked to get out of the way once or a hundred times it doesn't justify beating someone to the ground who is walking away from you... that is common assault. splodgeyAl
So can you give a link to where it states that police officers on protest/riot duty have to have their id on show? This do you? http://www.hmic.gov.uk/Inspections/SpecialistInspections/PPR/Pages/home.aspx Adapting to Protest The HMIC Report - Adapting to Protest was published on 7 July 2009. Conducted at the request of the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service, this review looked at the policing methods used on 1 April 2009 during the G20 summits in London. The report made a number of immediate recommendations, including that police: Facilitate peaceful protest Improve dialogue with protest groups where possible Improve communication with the public Moderate impact of containment when used Improve training to equip officers to deal with the full spectrum of protest activity Wear clear identification at all times and that: National guidance on the policing of protest needs overhauling by ACPO.
