I read his blog, then his book then his story when he showed his face and moved to Canada. His early blogs on the way the police over their were eye opening and he reiterates that in this article. Only now there is a slim chance something might change, I certainly hope the failed views of some in the upper echelons of British policing are blown away. Vague_Boy
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/7908488/Free-the-police-and-save-billions.html PC Copperfield knows his stuff and done his time on the front lines. His book, Wasting Police Time, should be compulsory reading for those who think that the modern police force is being run properly, or for the public benefit. Wasting Police Time explains why there's never a policeman around when you need one, why the 'war on crime' is a sham and how senior officers and the government conspire to fake the crime stats and fool the public. Wildcat
Since he is comparing the UK to Canada. Perhaps the most significant difference is the comparatively low sentencing for crimes in Canada and hence the 50% less of the population in prison. Except I notice he doesn't mention that. Rupert_Baehr
Since he is comparing the UK to Canada. Perhaps the most significant difference is the comparatively low sentencing for crimes in Canada and hence the 50% less of the population in prison. Except I notice he doesn't mention that. From the article: Well, there are 10 violent crimes per 1,000 people in Edmonton; in Greater Manchester, Home Office statistics show 16 offences of violence per 1,000 people (in Manchester itself, the figure is nearly 24/1,000, and in Britain as a whole, 15/1,000). Could it be that the Canadians send fewer people to prison because fewer Canadians commit serious crimes?

Could it be that the Canadians send fewer people to prison because fewer Canadians commit serious crimes? Their murder rate is higher. Other crime rates are hard to compare because of them being classified differently. It certainly isn't obvious their crime rate is lower... in fact their murder rate would indicate it is higher. Also their sentencing is lower from direct comparison rather than indirect look at the fewer people in prison.

Wildcat
A couple of examples of Canadian Police behaviour.... Here from march this year an Officer who seems to like kicking people: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pbsztgjvfU And here the tasering and killing of Robert Dziekanski, because no one seemed to be bothered enough to find an interpreter for him. Perhaps the red tape and money we spend is spent wisely to avoid\minimise incidents like these?
