mariposa6809
Just moved to Sheffield and looking for some good things to do after work as well as meeting new people. Love dancing, reading and films and just wondered what good groups are out there. Would also like to volunteer at groups for young people in the evenings but can't seem to find anything. Can anyone help? Cheers!
jomarch
Welcome to Sheffield! There is so much to do here but it will depend on where you are, transport etc. Try city library for info on dancing clubs and it will also help out with the reading! There are several cinemas- one in the centre as well as the showroom which is great for serious cinema buffs. Centertainment at Don Valley is popular, there is also a cinema in meadowhall as well. I'm sure you'll make friends soon as this is a friendly city!
philyyy
People on here have meetings all the time, so search and/or look out for those or try websites like citysocialising which is a bit cheesy but it's the easiest way.
Astraeus
I'm not sure if it's your cup of tea or whether you were looking more for youth clubs but Nacro is a charity which dedicates itself to helping at-risk youths in Sheffield. They run evening classes and gym work sessions at the centre off Sidney Street in the City Centre. If it's more youth club work and the like, it may be worth going straight to the village halls and community centres that offer those facilities. EdnaKrabappe
There is an unofficial meet of Sheffield Forum people at the Rawson Spring pub in Hillsborough next Wed 4th August, usually a good craic, some newbies, some oldies, range of ages and mental states! It's a good one and it's on the tramline right by the stop and if you don't like it, you can always sculk off. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=137684212926512&ref=search There's also book clubs/knit clubs held at Cocoa which are a good place to get to know people. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=137684212926512&ref=search#!/cocoa.sheffield?ref=ts Whilst cinema and gigs are great (and are completely my thing!), they aren't so great for getting to know people first off! Sheffield Harmony meet every Monday evening 7.30pm to 10.00 at Bents Green Methodist church (junction of Ringinglow Rd and Knowle Lane, S10) and have a GREAT time!! We sing all sorts of music in 4 part harmony, do sing-outs for charities, or to raise funds, take part in national competition every year and generally have fun. We'd love to have you join. No experience or musical knowledge required - no tests, you'll just be asked to sing a few notes so the MD can allocate you to one of the sections. I joined 4 years ago and wish I'd found it sooner. Just turn up any Monday (but not during August, as refurb of the hall means we'll be elsewhere).

Babooshka
Where do you live? If you like dancing there is HEAPS of stuff in this city. Blitz Modern Jive (very sociable, and for all ages). I think Cocoa Chocolate Shop run some good social evenings, on an occasional basis.
Fazer.Samuel
The forum or common room are nice, relaxed places. The Old House is a nice pub too, division street I believe.
craigpugh
Greentop Circus (http://www.greentop.org) has loads of evening classes from trapeze, acrobatics to dance and juggling, re-starting in september. Also they run youth circus which is always looking for volunteers. 0114 2448828 Craig x
