Dogs Of War
"Killer Ian Huntley is to sue the prison service after he had his throat slashed by another inmate in Frankland Prison, County Durham." http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Ian-Huntley-Soham-Killer-To-Sue-Ministry-Of-Justice-Over-Prison-Attack/Article/201007415674007?lpos=UK_News_First_UK_News_Article_Teaser_Region_0&lid=ARTICLE_15674007_Ian_Huntley:_Soham_Killer_To_Sue_Ministry_Of_Justice_Over_Prison_Attack Do you believe the prison service failed in their duty of care, or should we be offering another £100k to someone who manages to do the job properly? Im pretty sure if the prison officers all went on a tea break , someone would quite happily slit this animals throat for free. Im hoping it would be done in a way which causes as much pain and suffering as possible as he dies.

Swan_Vesta
A rather interesting article from the Prison Officer's Association's chairman, Colin Moses - Pages 1 - 5 http://www.poauk.org.uk/carousel/pdfs/Apr2010.pdf Caution: Image of a head wound sustained by an Officer which was inflicted by a prisoner. HeadingNorth
Exactly. He didn't care about the rights of the two innocent girls whose lives he snuffed out. And apparently, we're no better than him, because we don't care about rights either.

He got 40 years minimum Dogsofwar, his assassin would be doing him a favour (as his suicide attempts demonstrate), by ending his life. His suffering is in looking forward to nothing and the constant fear of being attacked.
boyfriday
Is this the new Godwin's Law? Indeed, Godwin's Law of Pitchforks attests that when there is no tilling of soil to occupy their brain cell, the peasants will turn on outsiders, and when that is done, on each other
Bulgarian
Thankfully our criminal justice system works on the basis that the rest of us are better than criminals. A very shaky assumption when you read some of these threads.

Let him be deprived of his liberty and live in fear of being attacked, that is the best form of 'natural justice'.

I can see your point about him being in fear for the rest of his life , but its unfair on the rest of the prisoners having this animal dangled in front of them ,and them not being able to get at him to apply justice. Ive always been against certain prisoners , IE , peados , rapists and people like Huntley , Whiting being protected in prison and being given "special treatment" by segregating them from the rest of the prisoners. Why should they be segregated after the vile crimes they have commited?
14alice
Like most people I agree that financial compensation is out of order. If he has the right to sue, OK, but special rules should apply to prisoners that any compensation is immediately transferred in to the "victims of crime" fund and they are not entitled to a penny
